BARTOW ROOFING GUIDE

Roofing Considerations Unique to Bartow

Historic Districts and Older Bartow Homes

Bartow was settled in the 1800s and became the Polk County seat, and its tree-lined streets show it. The South Bartow Residential District and the Northeast Bartow Residential District are both on the National Register of Historic Places, with Colonial Revival, Craftsman bungalow, and frame vernacular homes dating back to the 1880s. Many of these houses have steep pitches, multiple gables, and wood plank decking that needs a careful eye during a tear-off.

On older Bartow homes we often find two layers of shingles, decking boards that have shrunk and gapped over the decades, and chimneys or dormers with flashing that was sealed with tar instead of being properly replaced. We repair those details correctly so the new roof has a solid base.

Newer Neighborhoods Around Town

Not every Bartow roof is a century old. Ranch homes from the 1960s through the 1980s fill much of West Bartow and the neighborhoods near Floral Lakes, and communities such as Wind Meadows South, Club Colony, and The Grove at Stuart Crossing have added newer construction. Those homes typically need help with storm-lifted shingles, failing pipe boots, and attic ventilation rather than structural work.

Roof Types We Install and Repair in Bartow

  • Shingle roofs: the everyday choice for most Bartow homes, available in colors that suit both historic and modern houses. Shingle roofing
  • Metal roofs: a strong fit for farmhouses, acreage, and anyone who wants a roof that can outlast a mortgage. Metal roofing
  • Tile roofs: concrete and clay tile for Spanish and Mediterranean style homes, with repairs that match existing profiles where possible. Tile roofing
  • Flat roofs: TPO and PVC membranes for downtown storefronts, offices, and low-slope additions.

Permits in the City of Bartow and Unincorporated Areas

Roof replacements inside city limits are permitted and inspected by the City of Bartow Building Department. Homes outside the city, including much of the rural land toward Lake Hancock, Gordonville, and Highland City, are permitted through Polk County. We confirm the correct jurisdiction, pull the permit, and schedule every required inspection.

Weather That Tests Bartow Roofs

Bartow's flat inland terrain gives summer storms little to slow them down. Strong outflow winds and lightning arrive most afternoons from June through September, and hurricanes such as Milton in 2024 have brought damaging gusts to the county. High heat and the humidity near the Peace River also feed algae, dry out shingle sealant, and age older wood decking.

Repair, Replace, or Maintain?

We start every Bartow job with a free roof assessment. Isolated problems on a younger roof get a straightforward roof repair. A roof with widespread wear, repeated leaks, or soft decking is usually a candidate for roof replacement. Owners of newer roofs can join our Roof Maintenance Program for scheduled checkups.

Bartow Areas and Nearby Towns

We serve downtown and historic Bartow, West Bartow, Floral Lakes, Gordonville, Highland City, and the rural roads toward Lake Hancock. Nearby, our crews also work in Winter Haven, Lakeland, Mulberry, Fort Meade, Lake Wales, and across Polk County.

Absolute 5-star experience from start to finish!
We recently used R.I.G. Roofing for a project on our family home at Lake Mirror in Winter Haven after dealing with a frustrating roof leak. From the very beginning, their coordination was flawless. Their website was incredibly easy to navigate, and after filling out the contact form, we received an immediate response. Wow!The entire process was completely seamless. Every single step, from the initial consultation to the inspection with a higher-level manager, receiving the estimate, the actual roof work, and the follow-up care, was handled with total professionalism. It is clear that every department at R.I.G. works hand-in-hand. - Hide

RIG Roofing and Construction, solved my flat carport roof issues. Emory came out and thoroughly went over my whole roof and took lots of pictures. He listened to what I had to say and offered two options. The crew arrived early, managed by Isai and supervised by Aaron. Let me tell you they worked. This was a complex job and watching them was like watching a well organized group. They took down the flat part, built a temporary wall to hold the exterior structure up. They replaced the structural beam, by building it in place. Attached the cross beams and replaced the plywood. Then added the ISO board to create a slight tilt, so the water would flow off the roof. Then covered it with TPO sheeting. All this in one day and it poured for an hour or so. I was impressed. Thank you so much for the work well done. - Hide

I cannot say enough great things about Aaron Chandler and RIG Roofing! Aaron's communication throughout the entire process was exceptional. He was responsive at all hours of the day and understood how important our timeline was. We needed a complete reroof finished in time to satisfy insurance requirements, bind coverage, and keep our real estate closing on schedule with no delays.

RIG Roofing delivered! The entire reroof was completed in just one day, and I was extremely impressed with the quality, efficiency, and professionalism of the crew. Even the neighbors commented on how amazed they were with the process and quality of the work.

What impressed me just as much was the attention to detail. The landscaping and exterior of the home were kept in meticulous condition throughout the project, everything was cleaned up beautifully, and they even left spare shingles for the homeowners should they ever need them in the future. - Hide

Bartow Roofing Questions Answered

Most Bartow homeowners replacing an architectural shingle roof spend between $8,000 and $18,000. Metal and tile systems typically cost $10,000 to $30,000. Older homes with layered roofing or damaged plank decking can land toward the higher end. We give free written estimates and offer financing to qualified buyers.

Yes. We work on many older Bartow homes with steep pitches, multiple gables, and original plank decking. We take extra care during tear-off, repair the decking correctly, and help you choose colors and materials that suit the age and style of the house.

The City of Bartow Building Department permits roofs inside city limits. Properties outside the city, such as parts of Highland City and Gordonville, go through Polk County. Either way, our office files the paperwork and books each inspection.

Warning signs include shingles that are curling or missing in several areas, granules collecting in gutters, multiple leaks, sagging spots, and a roof that is 15 to 20 years old or more. A free assessment will tell you for certain.

Yes. Bartow farmhouses, outbuildings, and shops are a natural fit for metal, and our crews hold TriCounty Metals Masters Edge certification for both standing seam and exposed fastener panels.

Keep everyone off the roof and photograph the damage from the ground. Call (863) 294-4477 if water is getting inside, and we can provide Emergency Dry In tarping to protect the home. We will also document what we find in case you decide to contact your insurance company.
