We had a big problem in our master bathroom with the roof leaking. Rig sent out Elijah who inspected our roof, had an idea of what was wrong but wanted to do a water test. The next day he came out with his supervisor and they what they needed to do. I asked for worst case scenario pricing and what they really thought it would take (prepare for the worst, hope for the best). They provided their quote and was out in a few days. Well the repair turned out to be the best case. In fact, it came out less expensive then the best case quote.
Elijah and everyone else I spoke with was amazing with their communications, they came out when they said their would, and extremely clean.
When time comes from the roof replacement I am 100% going back to Rig Roofing based on this experience.

We recently used R.I.G. Roofing for a project on our family home at Lake Mirror in Winter Haven after dealing with a frustrating roof leak. From the very beginning, their coordination was flawless. Their website was incredibly easy to navigate, and after filling out the contact form, we received an immediate response. Wow!The entire process was completely seamless. I am so pleased with RIG ROOFING! I didn't have any problems at all from start to finish. Emory McTeer was the person I met with to get the project started. Angelina kept me informed about everything during the whole process. Aaron who supervised the job was very helpful and professional. The crew was very nice. RIG Roofing and Construction, solved my flat carport roof issues. Emory came out and thoroughly went over my whole roof and took lots of pictures. He listened to what I had to say and offered two options. The crew arrived early, managed by Isai and supervised by Aaron. Let me tell you they worked. This was a complex job and watching them was like watching a well organized group. They took down the flat part, built a temporary wall to hold the exterior structure up. They replaced the structural beam, by building it in place. Attached the cross beams and replaced the plywood. Then added the ISO board to create a slight tilt, so the water would flow off the roof. Then covered it with TPO sheeting. All this in one day and it poured for an hour or so. I was impressed. Thank you so much for the work well done. - Hide
Roofing in Lake Wales: Homes, Hills and Weather
Why Lake Wales Roofs Are Different
Lake Wales sits on the Lake Wales Ridge, home to some of the highest ground in peninsular Florida, with Bok Tower Gardens crowning Iron Mountain just north of town. That elevation means more exposure to wind than you might expect inland, and homes on hilltops or open lake frontage often take the brunt of passing storms.
The housing stock covers more than a century. Near downtown and around Lake Wailes you will find Craftsman bungalows, frame cottages, and a few Victorian and Mediterranean Revival homes from the 1910s and 1920s. The nearby Mountain Lake community, laid out by the Olmsted firm and listed on the National Register, is known for Spanish and Colonial Revival estates with clay tile. Mid-century block homes, newer subdivisions, and rural properties in the Lake Wales Highlands and along Crooked Lake fill in the rest.
Materials We Recommend for the Ridge
-
Architectural shingles remain the go-to for most Lake Wales homes, with impact and wind ratings that suit hilltop exposure. Shingle roof details
-
Metal roofing fits grove houses, ranch properties, and anyone who wants a long-lasting roof that sheds heavy rain fast. Metal roof details
-
Clay and concrete tile suits the Spanish and Mediterranean style homes that give parts of Lake Wales their look, and we repair broken tiles as well as install new roofs. Tile roof details
-
Low-slope roofs on downtown buildings, churches, and home additions are well served by TPO or PVC single-ply membranes.
Rain, Wind and What Storms Leave Behind
When Hurricane Ian passed near Lake Wales in September 2022, parts of the Lake Wales area recorded more than 21 inches of rain, and the wind uprooted large oaks across town. Most homes escaped serious harm, but heavy rain like that exposes every weak spot in a roof, from worn underlayment to cracked tile and failing flashing. Daily summer storms and hot, humid weather add steady wear in between the big events.
Around Lake Wales we most often repair cracked or slipped tiles, flashing around chimneys and walls on older homes, wind-lifted shingles on exposed ridgelines, and rotted decking hidden beneath decades-old roofs.
Lake Wales Permits Explained
Inside the city limits, roofing permits and inspections are handled by the City of Lake Wales through its permitting and inspections office. Many addresses with a Lake Wales mailing address, including the Lake Wales Highlands and much of the Crooked Lake area, are in unincorporated Polk County and are permitted by the county instead. We verify the jurisdiction, pull the permit, and schedule inspections so you do not have to.
Knowing When to Repair and When to Replace
A small leak or a handful of broken tiles on an otherwise healthy roof calls for a roof repair. A shingle roof near the end of its life, a tile roof with failed underlayment, or decking that feels soft underfoot usually means it is time for a roof replacement. A free roof assessment takes the guesswork out, and our Roof Maintenance Program helps newer roofs stay that way.
Lake Wales Neighborhoods and Neighboring Towns
We serve historic downtown Lake Wales, the Lake Wailes area, the Bok Tower and Mountain Lake area, Lake Wales Highlands, and Crooked Lake. Our crews also work in Dundee, Frostproof, Haines City, Bartow, Winter Haven, and all over Polk County.

Lake Wales Roofing FAQs
For a typical Lake Wales home, an architectural shingle replacement usually runs $8,000 to $18,000. Metal and tile tend to cost $10,000 to $30,000. Older homes with steep pitches or damaged decking can cost more, and smaller homes less. Once we have been up on the roof, you receive a written quote at no charge, and qualified homeowners can spread the cost out with financing.
Yes. We replace cracked and slipped tiles, rebuild failed underlayment, and reflash walls and chimneys. When a tile roof is past repair, we can replace it with new tile or walk you through switching to metal or shingle.
The City of Lake Wales permits and inspects roofs inside city limits. Properties in unincorporated areas such as the Lake Wales Highlands are permitted through Polk County. Our team handles the permit and inspections either way.
They can be. Homes on higher ground or open lakefront see more wind, so we pay close attention to fastening, edge metal, and ridge details on those roofs and recommend products rated for higher wind loads.
Yes. Many homes near downtown date to the 1920s. We handle them carefully, repair or replace original plank decking as needed, and help you choose materials that fit the home's style.
Keep your family safe, leave the ladder in the garage, and snap a few pictures from the yard. If rain is coming through a ceiling, phone (863) 294-4477 for Emergency Dry In tarping. We will then inspect the roof and record the damage in detail, useful if you later decide to bring in your insurer.
